Federal Tax Manager or Sr. Tax Manager
Our client is an organization in the Milwaukee area looking for a Tax Manager. Our client is looking for someone with extensive domestic tax experience, strong technical tax expertise, and the ability to lead complex tax initiatives. This individual will play a key role in managing tax provision activities, state income tax compliance, tax audits, and special tax projects while partnering with cross-functional teams to support strategic business initiatives.
The salary range for this position is $130k–160k.
The Tax Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the company’s domestic tax function, ensuring compliance with federal and state tax regulations.
- Lead the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740.
- Oversee state income tax compliance, planning, and reporting while monitoring legislative and regulatory changes.
- Manage and coordinate federal and state tax audits, responding to audit requests and resolving tax-related issues.
- Research complex domestic and international tax matters and provide technical guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Lead and support special tax projects, including transaction analysis, tax planning initiatives, and research related to unique tax matters such as excise taxes, executive compensation, and cross-border tax considerations.
- Partner with Accounting and Finance teams to ensure accurate tax reporting and financial statement disclosures.
- Prepare technical tax memorandums and communicate tax implications and recommendations to leadership.
- Identify opportunities to improve tax processes, strengthen internal controls, and increase operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with external advisors and taxing authorities as needed.
- Stay current on changes in tax laws and accounting standards to ensure ongoing compliance and identify planning opportunities.
The Tax Manager will possess the following:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s in Taxation is a plus.
- CPA certification required or strongly preferred.
- 7–12+ years of domestic tax experience required.
- Strong experience with ASC 740 income tax provisions required.
- Extensive experience with state income tax compliance and planning required.
- Demonstrated experience managing federal and state tax audits required.
- Strong technical tax research skills with the ability to interpret and apply complex tax regulations.
- Experience supporting special tax projects and researching unique tax issues, including executive compensation, excise taxes, or international tax considerations, is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and lead cross-functional initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
