Project Accountant
Our client is an organization in the Milwaukee area looking for a Project Accountant. Our client is looking for a detail-oriented accounting professional who can support the financial administration of multiple projects from billing through payment. This is a great opportunity for an entry-level candidate looking to build accounting experience in a project-based environment.
The salary range for this position is $55k–70k.
The Project Accountant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and process recurring project billings in accordance with contractual and customer requirements.
- Review project information and supporting documentation to ensure invoices are complete and accurate.
- Track billing schedules and coordinate with project teams to meet monthly deadlines.
- Monitor outstanding accounts receivable and follow up on past-due balances.
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding invoice questions and payment status.
- Enter, code, and process project-related invoices within the accounting system.
- Review vendor invoices and statements and research discrepancies as needed.
- Coordinate invoice approvals and ensure costs are assigned to the appropriate projects and accounts.
- Obtain and review lien waivers and other documentation required throughout the billing and payment process.
- Maintain organized project accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Assist with cash application and reconciliation of customer accounts as needed.
- Research billing and payment discrepancies and work with internal and external partners to resolve outstanding items.
- Partner with project managers and accounting team members to maintain accurate project financial information.
- Assist with month-end accounting activities and project-related reconciliations.
- Support project reporting and provide billing or receivable information as requested.
- Identify opportunities to improve billing, documentation, and accounting processes.
- Assist with additional accounting responsibilities and special projects as experience develops.
The Project Accountant will possess the following:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s or associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Previous accounting, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, or internship experience is a plus but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate financial records.
- Comfortable working with numbers, invoices, and detailed project documentation.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and recurring deadlines.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research discrepancies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn accounting and project management systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
- Self-motivated and dependable with a willingness to ask questions and learn new accounting processes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with accounting and project teams in a deadline-driven environment.
- Interest in developing broader project accounting and financial management experience.
