Accounting Manager
Our client is an organization in the Madison area looking for an Accounting Manager. Our client is looking for an experienced accounting professional who can oversee financial reporting, lead day-to-day accounting activities, and provide meaningful financial analysis to support business decisions. This position offers a diverse mix of accounting leadership, property-related financial management, and strategic analysis. The ideal candidate is a hands-on professional who enjoys variety, takes initiative, and can effectively partner with leadership on financial and investment-related matters.
The salary range for this position is $90k–120k.
The Accounting Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee accounting operations and financial reporting for a portfolio of properties and related business activities.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
- Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and supporting accounting schedules.
- Maintain oversight of general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, and other accounting transactions.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and development to accounting support staff.
- Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to support operational and investment decisions.
- Partner with ownership and senior leadership to evaluate financial performance, business opportunities, and strategic initiatives.
- Prepare financial reports and analysis for ownership-related activities and other business interests.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial projections.
- Evaluate property-level operating results, expenses, and profitability to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Support financial analysis related to potential investments, capital expenditures, and other business decisions.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure appropriate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls are followed.
- Coordinate with external accountants, tax professionals, and other business partners as needed.
- Assist with audit preparation, tax-related documentation, and year-end reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with property management and other internal teams to ensure financial information is complete and accurate.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, financial reporting, and overall operational efficiency.
- Manage multiple accounting and financial priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
- Support special projects and additional financial responsibilities as business needs evolve.
The Accounting Manager will possess the following:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- CPA preferred.
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience in real estate accounting, property accounting, or a privately held business environment preferred.
- Strong general accounting background with experience in financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or providing direction to accounting professionals preferred.
- Strong financial analysis skills with the ability to evaluate business performance and support investment-related decisions.
- Experience preparing financial statements and presenting financial information to business owners or senior leadership.
- Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial planning.
- Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and accounting principles.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting or financial reporting systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to balance hands-on accounting responsibilities with broader financial analysis and leadership activities.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with ownership, management, and external partners.
- Highly organized and adaptable with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Proactive and self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and an interest in contributing to broader business decisions.
