Staff Accountant
Our client is an organization in the Madison area looking for a Staff Accountant. Our client is looking for someone with a strong accounting foundation, excellent attention to detail, and the drive to take ownership of their work. The salary range for this position is $52k–78k + bonus.
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and post journal entries to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Perform general ledger account reconciliations and research and resolve discrepancies.
- Support day-to-day accounting activities and maintain accurate financial records.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
- Analyze account activity and investigate variances or unusual transactions.
- Assist with the preparation of internal financial reports and accounting schedules.
- Support internal and external audit requests by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
- Maintain compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Partner with other members of the Accounting and Finance teams on ongoing projects and initiatives.
- Take ownership of assigned accounting responsibilities while proactively identifying and resolving issues.
- Assume additional responsibilities and more complex accounting work as experience and knowledge develop.
The Staff Accountant will possess the following:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- 0–3 years of accounting experience.
- Previous accounting internship or other relevant professional business experience strongly preferred.
- Foundational understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn new accounting and ERP systems.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Strong work ethic with the initiative and drive to take ownership of responsibilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- Desire to learn, take on increasing responsibility, and grow within the accounting profession.
