We’re seeking an experienced accounting or tax professional to lead and strengthen an organization’s indirect tax function. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building processes, improving compliance, and taking ownership within a growing, multi-entity business.
This role will oversee indirect tax activities across multiple locations and business units while partnering with internal finance teams and external tax advisors to ensure compliance and continuously improve processes. The ideal candidate is hands-on, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities evolve.
Responsibilities
- Manage indirect tax compliance, including sales and use tax, property tax, excise tax, and other transaction-based taxes.
- Develop and maintain a centralized inventory of tax obligations, filing requirements, and compliance deadlines.
- Coordinate timely tax filings and payments with internal teams and external service providers.
- Maintain tax registrations, online tax portals, and compliance records.
- Serve as the primary contact for tax notices, agency correspondence, and audit support.
- Reconcile tax payments and ensure accurate reporting across multiple jurisdictions.
- Evaluate opportunities to improve tax processes, automation, and reporting.
- Standardize indirect tax procedures across multiple business units and support integration of newly acquired entities.
- Partner with external tax advisors to identify compliance risks, resolve issues, and implement long-term process improvements.
- Gradually assume ownership of third-party tax relationships while helping develop a risk-based approach to indirect tax management and other financial operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of accounting, tax, or financial operations experience.
- Experience with multi-state sales and use tax or other indirect tax compliance strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while working with cross-functional teams.
- Experience with ERP systems and financial software.
- Process improvement mindset with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
