Director of Finance
Our client is an organization in the Greater Milwaukee area looking for a Director of Finance. Our client is looking for a well-rounded accounting and finance leader who can combine strong technical knowledge with a business-focused mindset. This individual will oversee key accounting and financial planning activities while partnering across the organization to improve performance and support decision-making. This role offers significant visibility to leadership and long-term growth potential for someone interested in progressing into broader finance leadership.
The salary range for this position is $130k–150k.
The Director of Finance will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as a strategic finance partner to leadership and teams throughout the organization.
- Partner cross-functionally with operational and commercial leaders to understand business performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Lead the monthly financial reporting process and communicate results, trends, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership.
- Develop and present forecasts, dashboards, KPIs, and other financial and operational performance metrics.
- Translate financial results into meaningful business insights and actionable recommendations.
- Provide oversight of the month-end close process and ensure financial information is complete, accurate, and timely.
- Review journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and supporting financial schedules.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and longer-term financial planning activities.
- Analyze profitability, margins, expenses, and other key drivers of business performance.
- Develop financial analyses and scenarios to support strategic and operational decisions.
- Establish strong financial discipline across the organization through effective reporting, processes, and accountability.
- Maintain appropriate internal controls and identify opportunities to strengthen accounting and finance procedures.
- Support leadership with ad hoc analysis, business cases, and other strategic initiatives.
- Help enhance financial systems, reporting tools, and processes as the needs of the organization evolve.
- Provide leadership and guidance within the finance function while helping develop the capabilities of the broader team.
- Take on increasing responsibility for the overall finance organization as experience and business knowledge grow.
The Director of Finance will possess the following:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting, finance, controllership, FP&A, or related experience.
- CPA preferred.
- Strong understanding of both accounting fundamentals and forward-looking financial planning and analysis.
- Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Ability to move beyond reporting the numbers to interpret financial results and provide meaningful business recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with operational and commercial leaders outside of Finance.
- Leadership experience strongly preferred; candidates with limited formal people management experience may be considered if they demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and executive presence.
- Public accounting experience is valued, and candidates looking to transition directly from public accounting with the appropriate background will be considered.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand the operational drivers behind financial performance.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills with the confidence to interact with senior and executive leadership.
- Proactive and self-directed with the ability to balance detailed accounting responsibilities with broader strategic priorities.
- Strong business judgment and the ability to influence decisions across multiple functions.
- Desire and demonstrated potential to grow into broader executive finance leadership over time.
