Our client is an organization in the Milwaukee area looking for a Controller. Our client is looking for an experienced accounting and finance leader with a strong operational mindset, proven management experience, and the ability to serve as a trusted partner to the business. This individual will lead the accounting function for a division while working closely with operations and corporate leadership to drive financial performance, improve processes, and support organizational change.,
The salary range for this position is $140k–180k.
The Controller will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the accounting and financial operations for an assigned business segment, ensuring accurate and timely financial information.
- Oversee core accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash-related transactions, and general accounting functions.
- Partner closely with operational leadership to understand business performance, identify financial impacts, and support key decisions.
- Serve as the primary finance liaison between divisional operations and corporate accounting and finance teams.
- Lead and develop accounting team members while establishing clear expectations, accountability, and priorities.
- Provide financial analysis and insight to help leadership evaluate operational performance and business opportunities.
- Oversee financial close activities, account reconciliations, reporting, and related accounting processes.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and other financial planning activities for the business.
- Lead financial and accounting aspects of system implementations, integrations, and process changes.
- Evaluate existing workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, controls, reporting, and overall effectiveness.
- Drive change management initiatives and help teams successfully adopt new systems, processes, and ways of working.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure accounting activities are performed in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
- Collaborate across departments to resolve issues, improve financial visibility, and advance business priorities.
- Communicate financial information clearly and effectively to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Support additional strategic, operational, and finance initiatives as the business continues to evolve.
The Controller will possess the following:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Previous divisional, business unit, or operations-focused finance experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated management experience with a track record of developing and leading accounting or finance teams.
- CPA designation strongly preferred but not required.
- Previous public accounting experience is preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience partnering directly with operational leaders and supporting business decision-making.
- Experience with ERP implementations, system integrations, or significant finance transformation initiatives preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through change and improve processes within an evolving organization.
- Confident and effective communicator with the ability to establish credibility, influence decisions, and build strong cross-functional relationships.
- Action-oriented leadership style with a demonstrated ability to take ownership, solve problems, and drive initiatives through completion.
- Ability to balance accounting oversight with the broader financial and operational needs of the business.
