We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join a growing accounting team in Milwaukee. This position starts out as temporary and we’re seeking someone with the desire to potentially convert to a permanent position. This role will play an important role in supporting the Accounting Manager and will have primary responsibility for accounting activities related to multiple business operations.

 

The Senior Accountant will handle a variety of general accounting, month-end close, reconciliation, and financial reporting responsibilities while helping take day-to-day accounting work off the Accounting Manager’s plate. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys owning their work, digging into the details, and working across multiple areas of a business.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform accounting activities for multiple business operations
  • Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
  • Prepare and post journal entries and maintain supporting documentation
  • Complete balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations
  • Review account activity and research and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist with preparation and analysis of financial statements and internal reporting
  • Monitor revenue and expense activity and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in the appropriate period
  • Support accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and other general ledger accounting activities
  • Analyze financial results and investigate unusual trends or variances
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis as needed
  • Provide support for external audits and tax-related requests
  • Partner with the Accounting Manager to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting
  • Work cross-functionally with operations and other departments to gather information and resolve accounting questions
  • Take ownership of additional accounting projects and responsibilities as needs arise

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including month-end close and general ledger responsibilities
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
  • Experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with accounting/ERP systems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and accounting responsibilities independently
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both accounting and operational teams
