Tax Manager
Our client in the Madison area is looking for a Tax Manager. This client is looking for someone with 5+ years of tax experience, excellent analytical skills and highly organized. This role offers growth opportunities, great team, and strong benefits.
The salary range for this role is $115k-135k.
The Tax Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and perform detailed reviews of business and individual tax returns
- Deliver proactive tax planning strategies and advice to clients throughout the year
- Review team members completed tax returns.
- Tax planning and projections as requested.
- Research tax issues.
- Provide recommendations for internal process improvements.
- Consult clients to develop understanding of financial affairs and scope of their tax liability.
- Establish and maintain client relationships.
- Ad hoc projects as needed.
The Tax Manager will possess the following:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related field
- 5+ years of tax preparation experience
- CPA or EA certification preferred
- Excellent analytical skills with high attention to detail
- Willingness to be a team player
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

TITLE: Tax Manager
LOCATION: Regent Street, behind the Kohl Center
Covered/paid parking
WORK ARRANGEMENT: 3x a week onsite

HIRING MANAGERS: Pat Paulus – not a micromanager, laid back, nice guy. Started his career at Baker Tilly left after 5 years and started his firm from there. This is his 13th tax season.
TEAM: President/Partner (Pat), 2 Tax Managers this will be the third, the rest are younger staff
ROLE SPECIFICS:
Prepare and review business and individual tax returns
· Review less senior team members completed tax returns for accuracy, and provide feedback for learning opportunities
· Establish and maintain client and staff relationships
· Tax planning and projections requested by clients
· Research tax issues
· Provide recommendations for internal process improvements
· Maintain an understanding and knowledge of changes in tax law by reading professional literature or attending tax seminars and training courses
· Consult with clients to develop a basic understanding of their financial affairs and the scope of their tax liabilities
· Answer calls and emails from clients in a timely manner
· Utilizes strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills, as well as decision-making skills to assist with client needs regarding individual and business decisions
· Perform other related duties as assigned
IDEAL PROFILE:
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, CPA or EA
- 5 + years of experience
- Professional, laid back
COMPENSATION (Incl: KEY BENEFITS): $120k – $130k for the right candidate can go higher
POSTED COMPENSATION (If different): $115k – $135k
RELOCATION AVAILABLE? No
SIZZLE/GROWTH:
- No time sheets
- Low turnover, only has had one person quit in 13 years
- Lots of organic and controlled growth, upping their fee structure this year
- No acquisitions and no PE involvement
- 50 – 55 hours is their busy season, 35 hours in the summer
- Could grow into a Partner if this person wants to
Unlimited PTO, Dean HMO and he pays 75% of employee coverage and 60% of spouse

PREFERRED SKILLS
· CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or EA (Enrolled Agent) designation preferred
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred
· Minimum 5 years tax preparation experience
· Wolters Kluwer CCH Axcess tax software experience preferred
· Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
· Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment
· Willingness to be a team player
· General proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, and Outlook
