Our client is seeking a detail oriented Staff Accountant to support the operational and compliance needs of their growing organization. This individual will play a key role in handling accounting functions, assisting with legal documentation, and supporting property transitions across a real estate portfolio. This position offers exposure to both accounting and legal support responsibilities, with the opportunity to collaborate cross-functionally within the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process vendor invoices accurately and in a timely manner
- Match invoices to purchase orders and receiving documentation
- Resolve invoice discrepancies and respond to vendor inquiries
- Generate and distribute customer invoices
- Apply cash receipts and reconcile customer accounts
- Monitor aging reports and follow up on outstanding balances
- Resolve billing issues and customer payment discrepancies
- Assist with credit memos and adjustments as needed
- Prepare and post journal entries (accruals, prepaid expenses, allocations)
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Support financial statement preparation and variance analysis
- Maintain accurate general ledger records in accordance with company policies
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing documentation
- Support tax filings, including sales/use tax and other compliance requirements
- Ensure adherence to accounting policies and internal controls
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies
- Assist with special projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Literature, or a related field preferred but not required.
- 3–5 years of experience in an accounting-focused role, ideally within a real estate, construction, or multi-entity environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in legal writing and document interpretation required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate clearly across teams.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proactive mindset with a strong ability to problem-solve independently and collaboratively.
- Flexible and adaptable to change, with a commitment to continuous improvement and team development.
