Our client is an organization in the Madison area looking for a Director of Revenue Accounting. Our client is looking for someone with 6+ years of accounting experience in a large organization and ability to lead a team.
The Director of Revenue Accounting will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as the company’s lead expert on revenue recognition.
- Collaborate with Sales and Legal during the contract process to ensure deals are structured and documented properly for accounting and reporting purposes.
- Manage and guide the revenue accounting team, providing mentorship, feedback, and ongoing development opportunities.
- Oversee monthly and quarterly revenue close activities, including review of journal entries, reconciliations, and related cost of revenue analysis.
- Evaluate complex or non-standard contracts, prepare accounting assessments, and document conclusions in detailed position papers.
- Partner with business leaders to forecast revenue, monitor backlog activity, and ensure timely conversion from deferred to recognized revenue.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and SOX requirements, maintaining robust documentation to support audits.
- Serve as the primary liaison for revenue-related audit requests and coordinate with external auditors to ensure transparency and accuracy.
- Drive initiatives to enhance and automate revenue accounting processes through system improvements and workflow optimization.
- Provide training to Finance and cross-functional teams on revenue principles, policies, and best practices.
- Maintain and periodically update internal revenue recognition policies to reflect current accounting standards and evolving business models.
The Director of Revenue Accounting will possess the following:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- 6+ years of accounting experience in a larger organization.
- Experience in manufacturing industry is preferred.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Well organized, detail oriented and accurate.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
