Manager of Job Cost Systems

A well-respected, established engineering firm in downtown Chicago is seeking a Job Cost Manager to join their team! This role blends accounting and project cost management responsibilities, partnering closely with project managers and the Controller to ensure accuracy and efficiency across 50+ active projects.

Compensation: $85-94K salary + discretionary performance bonus

Work Arrangement: Fully on-site in a prime downtown Chicago location

Responsibilities:

• Oversee accurate setup of new projects within Deltek Ajera, including budgets, timelines, and resources
• Ensure direct and indirect costs are applied consistently in line with project, billing, and FAR requirements
• Review and update billing rate tables and project budgets as needed
• Manage invoicing, payables entry, and job cost analysis
• Partner with project managers to monitor project budgets and scope
• Provide work plan templates and reporting to support project teams
• Support AP/AR entry, payroll processing, audits, and financial reporting
• Assist with technology/equipment purchases and other accounting-related projects

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required (Business, Accounting, or related field)
• 5–7 years of relevant experience in job cost accounting (construction or engineering background preferred)
• Proficiency with Deltek Ajera or similar systems
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work between project teams and leadership
